Knotted Wrack - 3D wall sculpture

Description

Hand constructed 3D wall sculpture made from found materials sourced by hand from the coastline of Anglesey. Plant stem and wood bound with blue and orange fishing line holding a bulb of dried seaweed.

Backstory

Knotted Wrack is the name of the seaweed used in this piece, other names include Norwegian kelp, it's found in cold water on sheltered and rocky shores. It has an olive-green, olive-brown in colour when wet with long, leathery fronds and egg shaped air bladders. It is slippery underfoot as I know to my peril from childhood expeditions hunting for crabs.

Mounted on 3 mm MDF with a recycled 'ring pull' hanger on the back.
